Vision

We envision a city with a strong sense of disability culture and identity, where the people with disabilities who live, work, and visit actively engage in the services and supports available to them, fully participate in civic life, and feel valued and proud of who they are.

Mission

By providing educational, artistic, and social networking opportunities, the San Francisco Disability Cultural Center brings diverse people with disabilities together to access resources, advance social justice, and foster disability culture, community, and pride.

How does the DCC define “disability”?

We think Alice Wong said it best in the introduction to her beautiful anthology Disability Visibility:

Disability is not a monolith, nor is it a clear-cut binary of disabled and nondisabled. Disability is mutable and ever-evolving. Disability is both apparent and non apparent. Disability is pain, struggle, brilliance, abundance, and joy. Disability is sociopolitical, cultural and biological. (p xxii)
