What to Expect
You can always expect a warm welcome and a clean, cozy space at the DCC. There will be a few differences when you visit for an event versus just to spend time hanging out in the space.
Visiting For Open Hours
If this is your first visit, you’ll meet with a member of the DCC team to learn about our Community Agreements and sign-up as a member. (You can sign-up as a member beforehand if you want, and pick up your card at the desk when you arrive!) Becoming a member means you’ve signed our Community Agreements and you’ve received a QR code for future sign-ins.
If our team cannot meet your language needs in person, we have Language Line, an interpretation system, we can call at any point.
If you’re already a member, a DCC team member will let you in the front door, and you’ll scan your QR code.
Once you’re in the space, you can choose your own adventure. Sometimes we’ll have activities you can participate in. Or you can always chat with a friend or do your own thing.
- In addition to tables and comfy chairs, there are swiveling loungers, perching poufs, cozy outdoor chairs, and a nap-worthy couch.
- You can be inside or outside – we have a big wall that collapses and creates an indoor-outdoor vibe.
- You may find some folks to connect with. You could have a cup of tea and share some snacks. Or maybe get into a game of cards.
- If you’re not up for social time, you can help yourself to a “Solo Time” sticker so folks know you don’t want to chat. You could read or listen to a book from our library, work on your laptop, or cuddle up with a blanket and chill. It’s up to you!
Visiting For An Event
When you register to attend in-person, you will receive a QR code with your confirmation. This will act as your ticket to enter the DCC – you’ll need to scan it to get into the event. (It’s okay if you forget it, we can look you up. It just takes longer.)
Once you’re in the space, find a spot! There are lots of options. If you need help finding an accessible seat, we encourage folks to lean into collective access and chat with those around you. If that doesn’t work for you – just let a DCC team member know, and we’ll figure it out together.
We have ASL at all events unless nobody who uses ASL has registered. We also will do our very, very best to meet any other access needs you may have. There is a spot on our registration form where you can specify those needs.
After the event, we love when folks hang around and mingle. We will announce at the beginning of the event when we are closing the space so folks know how much time they have.
Some of our events will end after dark – if you would like to travel in a group or with a companion to BART, MUNI, or your car, we’re happy to announce and see if we can help you connect with another DCC attendee.

Driving/Parking
The best way to get driving directions is to enter 165 Grove Street into a smartphone’s navigation app. If you do not have a smartphone or navigation app, please email access [at] DisabilityCulturalCenter [dot] org and we can send you directions from your location.
The DCC has no designated parking. There is a loading zone directly in front, so you can drop off passengers before parking nearby.
Street parking can be limited, depending on the time of day. There are plenty of nearby parking garages, with prices ranging from $15 to $50. The adjacent blocks have parking meters, and if you go two-three blocks away, West on Franklin and Gough, you can find two-hour parking.
The closest parking garage is at Fulton between Gough and Franklin.
