Alice Wong, beloved oracle of our lifetime, envisioned a series of discussions that take disabled brilliance to the messy middle of our current struggles for justice, equity, and access. The DCC, together with the MacArthur Fellows at 45 series and fellow Josh Miele, is proud to honor Alice’s vision with a four-part discussion series that gets to the heart of the hardest questions in racial justice, aesthetics, artificial intelligence, and neo-eugenics. On July 29th, please join panelists Sami Schalk, Mel Chen, and Subini Ancy Annamma as we get into Disability + Racial Justice Solidarity. Their guiding question is: While we celebrate another Disability Pride Month and ADA anniversary, how and why does our mainstream movement still fail to center BIPOC communities?
Masks will be required during the panel. We will have a reception with snacks following the panel (7:30-8:30pm in-person only). We ask that folks eat and drink outside if it’s accessible to you. If you do eat or drink inside, please keep your mask up except when you’re taking a bite or sip. As always, if you cannot mask, we are happy to provide you with a Covid test and sticker indicating that you’ve tested negative.
With gratitude to John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for including our series in “Defying Boundaries: MacArthur Fellows at 45.” This moment calls for creative courage. For 45 years, MacArthur Fellows have expanded the boundaries of possibility by questioning conventions, crossing disciplines, and driving collective progress. Throughout 2026, the Foundation is celebrating the groundbreaking work of the Fellows and inspiring public dialogue through a series of nationwide events and conversations.
