Disability + Journalism

DCC Hosted

ASL | hybrid | masks required inside | recorded

You know that thrill when you read a solid piece of disability journalism? One that leans into real issues and storytelling rather than offensive inspiration porn, narratives of burden, or a pitiful tone. The DCC will talk with two veterans of the field, Shruti Rajkumar and Julia Métraux, who combine their professional and lived experience to tell our stories in publications such as Mother Jones, HuffPost, NPR, The Guardian, and more. They’ll dig into the reality of fast-moving newsrooms, the challenges of hooking a wider audience, pitching your stories, and strategies for collectively amplifying our voices.

Masks will be required inside and optional outside. We ask that folks eat and drink outside if it’s accessible to you. If you do eat or drink inside, please just keep your mask up except when you’re taking a bite or sip. As always, if you cannot mask, we are happy to provide you with a Covid test and sticker indicating that you’ve tested negative.
