Cafe Crip: Neuro Queer Theory

DCC Hosted

ASL | Captions | Virtual

Cafe Crip is a monthly gathering to talk about important topics within our disability communities. This month, we’re digging Dr. Nick Walker’s neuroqueer theory “the practice of queering (subverting, defying, disrupting, liberating oneself from) neuronormativity and heteronormativity simultaneously.” We’ll be reading her work and discussing all the different ways we neuroqueer and are neuroqueer. If that sounds theory-heavy, worry-not; we’re in it together. It’s going to be a juicy one as we get into the fun pretzel that is our neuroqueer community! We send readings in advance, but they are optional, and there will be plenty of opportunities to jump in if your capacity doesn’t allow for reading them. Facilitator Bianca Laureano leads the group through community agreements and access principles to ensure everyone can join this informal community-building hangout.
