Cafe Crip is a monthly gathering to talk about important topics within our disability communities. This month’s theme is Disabled Parenting. Disabled people make incredible parents – our capacity for empathy, creative solutions, and patience is unparalleled. Our children know in their bones that there are billions of ways to live, care, and love. Despite all this, we face ableism from the moment we dare to imagine having children. Let’s support each other, share our stories, and strategize as only we can. We send readings in advance, but they are optional, and there will be plenty of opportunities to jump in if your capacity doesn’t allow for reading them. Facilitator Bianca Laureano leads the group through community agreements and access principles to ensure everyone can join this informal community-building hangout.
