Speaking Engagements

The leadership team at the DCC holds a wide breadth of expertise about disability and would be happy to discuss speaking for your organization, school, or community about access, anti-ableism, disability history, disability representations in film, and more. For speaking inquiries, please email us. We typically charge an honorarium fee, but can be flexible depending on your budget, including some pro bono opportunities.

Hands-On Access Training/Consulting

Learn how to run accessible events on Zoom and in-person. Our team of seasoned event organizers can teach best practices and how to implement them in an effective and affordable way.

Whether it’s a personalized Zoom workshop, a venue walk through, or a customized accessibility plan, we’re here to help.

Ableism 101 and 201

The DCC welcomes the opportunity to bring our expertise to you to help your community or organization address anti-ableism through education.

We center our trainings on disability culture and use disability history, film, and the arts to pull the audience into the conversation in a way that is both engaging and inviting. Our presentations help support talking about disability and unlearning ableism by pulling from disability studies and disability justice activism while making the lessons accessible to a wide audience without being overly academic or dry.

We can provide a 101 workshop that covers the basics of making your community more accessible to disabled people and promoting anti-ableism, or we can provide a 201 conversation that dives deeper into the nuances and complexities of anti-ableism work in practice, always personalizing our workshops to the needs of your community to meet you where you’re at.

To explore this possibility, contact us. We typically charge a fee for our workshops, but we can be flexible depending on your budget, including some pro bono opportunities. If you are looking for a type of disability expertise that the DCC team cannot provide, we are also happy to make referrals to other speakers and organizations that can help.

Host a Superfest Showcase

Superfest is the longest-running disability film festival in the world, celebrating cutting-edge cinema that portrays disability through a diverse, complex, unabashed and engaging lens. It is one of the few festivals worldwide that prioritizes access, welcoming in disabled filmgoers of all kinds. All of our films are offered with open captioning and audio description to make it as accessible as possible.

Our Superfest Showcases provide opportunities to screen our award-winning films from previous festivals to communities that might not otherwise attend the festival. We are open to your ideas of how best to integrate our Showcase into your organization’s needs. We want to work with you to find a way to help educate and engage your community in the best way possible.

We offer a selection of over 50 films from 18 different countries. We have a range of shorts and features, and films of all genres: documentary, comedy, drama, experimental, etc. Films cover a wide range of disabilities. We are happy to work to find the best film(s) for your audience, whether you’re just looking for the best of the best or a lineup that pulls out a specific theme or disability-focus.

We typically recommend 45 minutes – 120 minutes of film footage, and generally our events are an hour and a half to three hours long, giving room for a Q and A discussion afterwards. We have a template invitation and once a date and time is decided, we can help create the poster for you to support your outreach efforts.

We also provide a facilitator for a discussion (if this is desired) and ensure we can have someone available from our team to be there. We can help with setting up a registration page as well as discussing accessibility needs, though we expect the host to offer ASL and live captioning if requests are made (and we can also help arrange for these services as needed). If you think you might be interested, let’s schedule a time where we can talk to discuss more details! Please email us.
