Event Description: Leonardo CripTech Incubator is an art and technology program rooted in disability innovation. Our most recent project, Slow AI (leonardo.info/slow-ai, is the culminating virtual exhibition of the CripTech AI Lab, in which disabled artists from 7 countries cripped AI, questioning its speed, its assumptions, its extractive logics, and built something more human in its place. Led by artist M Eilo, the lab ran on open-source tools, local hosting, and community care. We want the next lab to more explicitly engage with the needs and desires of disabled communities – and we invite you to help shape it.
CripTech Incubator is hosting two intimate AI design charrettes this August. Our charrettes are collaborative intensives in which a diverse group of community members gather to solve a design or planning problem – in this case, the fraught terrain of AI for disability communities.
These charrettes are participatory design workshops built around lived experiences with technology, access, and the everyday frictions of living with ever-changing tools. We want to hear your voice, your hacks, your visions, and to think alongside you as we collectively map what disability-led AI could actually look like. Insights from these charrettes will directly inform the design of the next lab.
This is a volunteer, community-based session. Participants will be featured in our virtual exhibition and website materials as co-designers of this work.
